Bringing Eye Care to a Volunteer Clinic in Aptos

Editorial update: October 22, 2026

At a volunteer pop-up clinic in Aptos, Dr. Craig Fellers helped provide eye care alongside a team of volunteers. A gymnasium became a working clinic, with portable equipment, examination stations, and space for people to have their vision checked.

These photographs from Dr. Fellers’ collection offer a closer look at the care and teamwork that go into a clinic day.

Familiar eye care in a community setting

Dr. Fellers’ volunteer work included examining eyes and checking prescriptions. The photographs show a slit lamp at one station and a phoropter at another. A slit lamp gives the examiner a magnified view of the eye; a phoropter holds different lens powers for a prescription assessment.

Portable equipment lets volunteers bring these parts of an examination to a shared community space. Each station has a practical role, and each visit gives someone time with an eye-care professional.

The people behind a clinic day

The photographs also show volunteers working together at testing stations. Preparing equipment, helping people move between stations, and supporting the examination all contribute to the day. Dr. Fellers’ work is one part of that larger effort.

Continuing to show up for our neighbors

Dr. Fellers has volunteered at multiple local free clinics and taken part in two VOSH service trips. This Aptos clinic is part of that ongoing interest in making eye care accessible to the community.

Our practice’s community work also reaches the coast and waterways around us. Beach cleanups, river cleanups, and contributions to conservation are ways the Midtown team stays involved in the place we call home.
