Editorial update: October 22, 2026 · Midtown Optometry
Medical eye care goes beyond a glasses prescription. We diagnose and manage appropriate ocular conditions, track changes with imaging and functional tests, and coordinate specialist treatment when your eyes need it.
AMD affects the macula, the part of the retina used for sharp central vision. We examine the retina and use OCT and photographs when indicated to monitor changes. New distortion, a new central dark spot, or a sudden change in vision needs prompt assessment.
Dry and wet AMD require different approaches. If we suspect wet AMD or a complication needing retinal treatment, we arrange ophthalmology care. Treatments such as retinal injections are performed by the appropriate specialist; we help coordinate monitoring and communication.
AREDS2 supplements can help selected people with intermediate AMD, or late AMD in one eye, reduce the risk of progression in an eligible eye. They are not a general vision vitamin or a treatment for everyone with early AMD. We review the stage of disease and your medical history before recommending them. NEI: who may benefit from AREDS2.

A cataract is clouding of the eye’s natural lens. It can cause haze, glare, and difficulty with night driving or reading. We assess whether cataracts explain your symptoms, update correction when useful, and discuss a surgical evaluation when daily activities are affected.

Cataract surgery replaces the cloudy lens with an artificial intraocular lens. The surgeon discusses lens choices, expected vision, possible need for glasses, and risks. The choice depends on eye health and visual goals; no implant guarantees freedom from glasses.
Our cataract referrals include Dr. Mona Sane at iSight Care in Los Altos, Dr. David F. Chang in Los Altos, and Dr. Mark R. Mandel at Optima Eye Care. We help coordinate the referral and confirm the appropriate office when scheduling. For LASIK, we refer to Dr. Mandel; see our LASIK consultation guide.
We follow optic-nerve structure, eye pressure, and visual function over time and discuss drops, laser referral, or specialist care as appropriate. Read about glaucoma management, SLT, and the LiGHT trial.
Diabetes can affect retinal blood vessels before vision changes become obvious. Dilated examinations and imaging help us detect and monitor changes, communicate with your other clinicians, and arrange retinal treatment when indicated. Learn about diabetic eye care.
We evaluate conjunctivitis, suspected iritis, corneal problems, and dry eye. The treatment depends on the diagnosis and may include prescription medication, follow-up examinations, or referral. See our urgent-eye-care guidance or explore dry eye treatment.
We explain what we see, how we will follow it, and when another specialist should be involved. Our CIRRUS OCT, CLARUS imaging, fundus photography, biometer, and Radius visual fields support this work. Technology adds information to the examination and your clinician’s assessment.
We accept VSP and Medicare. Coverage depends on the service and your benefits; our team can help clarify the details before planned care.
